FTTH Deployment & Management
Manage the entire FTTH deployment lifecycle — from fiber physics and permits to construction, splicing, and live network operations.
What is it & why it matters
Most courses train one task. This 4-week intensive walks the whole fiber-to-the-home lifecycle, so you understand how design, civil works, permits, and operations depend on each other.
A good fit if…
- You want to manage builds, not just work in them
- You like seeing the whole system, not one task
- You're ready for a capstone-level challenge
What you'll learn
- Fiber & network design
Fiber optics physics, XGSPON architecture, IP network design, and OSP layout.
- Permits & compliance
Right-of-way access, municipal permitting, environmental reviews, and the 811 ecosystem.
- Construction & splicing
IFC drawings, trenching, HDD, fusion splicing standards, and OTDR validation.
- Operations & monitoring
NOC oversight, quality-of-experience metrics, and predictive maintenance.
From day one to day-one on the job
- W1
Theory, IP & OSP design
Fiber physics, XGSPON architecture, IP network design, OSP layout, and GIS design locates.
- W2
POP, middle mile & permitting
POP facilities, middle-mile transport, municipal permitting, environmental compliance, and one-call locating.
- W3
Construction, splicing & assets
IFC drawings, trenching and HDD, fusion splicing standards, OTDR testing, and as-built records.
- W4
Operations & capstone
NOC monitoring, quality-of-experience metrics, predictive maintenance — then the capstone rollout project.
- W5+
Paid practicum & job
CUTI arranges a 3-month paid practicum. Then full-time employment at a higher wage.

Frequently asked questions
Why this program?
You finish with a capstone: managing a simulated regional FTTH rollout from feasibility through construction, splicing, and live network operation. Built with the INTUS Smartcities CUTI Division.
How much does it cost?
$0 course fee when you complete the sponsored work commitment: the 3-month paid practicum plus 3 months of full-time employment. Prefer no work commitment? Pay for the course yourself and keep every option open.
Who hires graduates of this program?
Built with INTUS Smartcities and delivered through the CUTI Division for carriers, FTTH builders, and network contractors.
Do I need a specific licence or diploma?
You need a valid driver's licence with a clean abstract — full G preferred, G2 accepted with a plan to get your G by training's end. You also need an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, including Grade 12 English or equivalent.
Anything else before the practicum starts?
Some employers request a criminal background check, drug testing, and physical standards before paid practicums begin. If your computer skills are basic, we help you get up to speed during training.
When can I start?
Applications are rolling, with multiple start dates each year. Seats are limited — apply at least 7 days before your preferred start date.
